The 6 Chelsea players who will leave in January transfer Windows
The January transfer window is very much
under way and Chelsea have already made the first move by signing Christian
Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.
The one snag in that deal, of course, is
that the 20-year-old American will not actually join up with the Blues until
the summer, having been loaned back to finish the current Bundesliga campaign.
Maurizio Sarri has said that he does not
care about the transfer window, that he will just train the players he has.
However, he has also stated that the current squad at his disposal is too large
and that means some players might have to face the Stamford Bridge exit.
But could make way? Here are six players
that could be facing the door this window to make room for incoming players.
Cesc Fabregas
He is a player that Sarri doesn't want
to let go, but it looks inevitable that the Spaniard is going to be making his
exit from Stamford Bridge this January.
The 31-year-old is set to join Thierry
Henry's Monaco, with the FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest set to be his
final match in a Chelsea shirt.
Fabregas could really have helped the
Blues, at least until the end of the season, but the fact that he wants more
first team opportunities means that he has looked elsewhere and it is the end
of his time in England.
Victor Moses
The Blues have something of a winger
issue now with Callum Hudson-Odoi, Pedro and Willian all picking up injuries in
recent matches.
However, Victor Moses has still not had
a chance to get some game time and the writing is on the wall for his time with
the Blues.
Sarri has already stated that the Nigerian
does not fit into his system, and with the signing of Pulisic as well there is
even less space for him.
Danny Drinkwater
With Fabregas on the verge of leaving,
you might think that there is now space for Danny Drinkwater to get a chance in
the team.
However, Sarri's past comments suggest
that maybe the Blues midfielder is not the man for him to play in the Jorginho
role and it could mean an exit for the Premier League winner.
A loan deal could be on the cards, but
you would feel his Chelsea misery needs to come to an end for him to get on
with his career.
Davide Zappacosta
Zappacosta was very much a signing to
appease Antonio Conte in the need for a back-up right wing-back, but the
Italian is getting no chances with Sarri.
He has played the odd Europa League and
Carabao Cup match, however he didn't even start against Bournemouth in the
quarter-final with Sarri going for the experience of Cesar Azpilicueta.
With Ethan Ampadu proving that he can
play at right-back as well, it might be time for Zappacosta to move on.
Gary Cahill
The former England international has been
an outstanding servant for Chelsea since joining seven years ago, but the
33-year-old believes he should be playing first team football.
He certainly could do at many Premier
League clubs, and a loan deal to Fulham is very much on the cards if they send
back Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Manchester United and free up space.
Cahill then can reassess the future in
the summer, but he deserves to be playing football and a team would surely snap
him up.
Lucas Piazon
You have to feel really sorry for the
Brazilian who has been kept around the Chelsea squad but has not been playing
at all. In fact he is not even in the squad to play.
That means it has been something of a
bit of a waste of half a season for Piazon, and surely the Blues will let him
go out on loan or even be sold permanently.
Even with the injury crisis at the
moment, the Brazilian has not had much of a look-in.
