Prosecution closes case in Tommy Lee's lottery scam trial

The prosecution has closed its lottery scamming case against dancehall entertainer Tommy Lee Sparta.

The artiste, whose given name is Leroy Russell, is jointly charged with O’Brian Smith for possession of identity information and unlawful use of premises.

Wednesday morning's session saw the court examining evidence that was found on the HP Pavilion laptop computer that was seized by investigators at a house occupied by Tommy Lee.

The prosecution has  been arguing that Tommy Lee is involved in lottery scamming, an illegal activity which has seen United States citizens being bilked of billions of dollars.

Detectives alleged that they found a hidden file on a laptop belonging to the deejay with files containing personal information on several US residents.

Letters found in the recycle bin of a computer, which is said to be used by the entertainer reportedly indicated to two US seniors that they had won US$7,700,000 and US$1,500,000 respectively, and two red Mercedes-Benz motor cars in a lottery sweepstakes.

Tommy Lee has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Defence attorney Ernest Smith is expected to make a no-case submission later today.
