Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan has come under a barrage of attacks after rallying support for the Black Stars ahead of their international friendly against Iceland tonight.
The match, scheduled to start at exactly 8 pm, is part of Black Stars preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and is also the final World Cup warm-up game for Iceland.
But Ghanaians have shown little or no interest in the game. This is after viewing celebrated investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas' documentary, titled Number 12 on Wednesday.
The documentary exposed the rot in Ghana sports, especially the GFA where top officials and referees were caught taking money - including some collecting as little as GH¢200 ($42) - to influence match results in the domestic league as well as push players into national teams.
And, with many disappointed and angry, Gyan took to Twitter to garner support for the Black Stars.
''In spite of the difficult times, my plea is, as we leave the matters to the appropriate authorities, the National Team is out there in a friendly today and still deserves some support cos it's Ghana...#IstandwithmyCountry,'' the country's all-time leading scorer - 51 goals - tweeted.
